But Marty wanted more, and he finally let Rory know that once she began showing interest in Logan, who Marty introduced her to, but despised nonetheless. Rory turned him down, and we all but forgot about poor old Marty until season seven, when he reappeared as the new boyfriend of Rory’s friend Lucy. Marty was totally sketchy when seeing Rory again for the first time, pretending that they’d never met before. Rory was freaked out, but she played along for a bit—until Logan ultimately blew their cover, admitting that Marty was the one who, in fact, introduced him to Rory. A betrayed Lucy broke up with Marty once his lies were revealed and it became clear that he never really got over Rory.

This results in Logan bringing up the fact the pair are lying at a dinner they all have together, causing Lucy to stop talking to Rory. A few episodes later, Taylor is town selectman again, without any explanation given. Considering Jackson’s regret, we can assume that he resigned and the position went back to Taylor. Still, it’s a bit odd that his running was a major plot line of an episode, only for the subject to revert back to how it was without even a passing line or two to explain.

I’m not saying that the criticisms of Rory and Lorelai aren’t valid, but I wish there was more empathy about where they’re coming from, rather than jumping to mocking them. There seems to be such an odd trend recently of people expecting characters to be completely flawless and to act 100% morally in all situations that I swear was never a thing before. I agree – Rory and Lorelai both behave abominably in a lot of situations, but I think the show is really all about family trauma and its lasting effects across several generations. Lorelai and Jason break up after Jason sues Richard for leaving their partnership, while Lorelai sides with her father.

When Rory spends some time alone in Emily’s house, she remembers the Friday night dinners, starting with the one in season three where she and her mother are eating fast because they have dates. But besides a somewhat disastrous single run of the gazette that Rory and Lorelai had to hand deliver themselves and some encouraging words from Jess it doesn’t go anywhere and no mention is made of its future. Lane Kim and Henry Cho keep their relationship secret, especially from Mrs. Kim.

Rory needed someone who challenged and excited her, and Dean, with his high school diploma and construction job, was not that person. He exits in the middle of season 5 after confessing his feelings to Rory only to be rebuffed, but then he returns in season 7 as Lucy’s boyfriend. As Lucy’s boyfriend, he pretends he doesn’t know who Rory is, causing tension between Rory and her new friends when it is later discovered. Luke throws a birthday party for his pre-teen daughter April.

Rory met her and Olivia while covering an art show for the Yale Daily News. She majored in acting, and was the girlfriend of Rory’s old friend, Marty. At misstravel the game, Rory was having an awkward time with her grandparents. He got her out of her comfort zone and invited her to a party with kids their own age.
